Rider Training FAQ

We strongly recommend you read these frequently asked questions before registering for any of our motorcycle training courses.


ARE THE MOTORCYCLE COURSES PHYSICALLY DEMANDING?

Yes. The motorcycle training courses can be physically demanding, with many hours of riding time during the course. As such, it may not be suitable for all students.

We strongly recommend that students have the ability and experience of riding a conventional (pedal) bicycle before taking this course.


WILL I HAVE TO WRITE A TEST?

Yes, this training program includes two tests. The first test is online and needs to be successfully completed prior to the in-person practical training sessions. The second test is at the end of the practical training sessions - you must successfully complete both tests to pass this course.

*Please note: You cannot challenge our test even if you have already completed the written test with Access NS.


HOW WILL I ACCESS THE ONLINE TRAINING?

30 days prior to your practical in-person training sessions you will receive an email with a registration key to allow you to login into the online course. The email will go to the same email address that was used to register for the course.


WHAT AM I REQUIRED TO BRING WITH ME TO THE TRAINING?

Students are required to bring the following:

  • Motorcycle helmet

    • Minimum Department of Transportation approved.

  • Gloves, preferably leather

    • Fingerless gloves are not permitted.

  • Sturdy jacket and pants

    • Leather or denim recommended if you do not have a proper motorcycle jacket with padding/armour.

  • Boots that cover the ankle

    • Leather preferred. Rubber boots and sneakers are not permitted.

  • Rain gear

    • Course will remain underway regardless of weather.

  • Valid NS Drivers License

    • Learners license (class 7) at a minimum.

  • Copy of certificate of completion for the online portion of the course prior to practical sessions

  • Copy of your receipt indicating payment for the course

  • All students under the age of 19 MUST have a parent or guardian signed waiver on the FIRST day of their course


WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE?

Please arrive 20 minutes before course is scheduled to begin.


WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL OR RESCHEDULE MY MOTORCYCLE COURSE?

WHY DO THE COURSE PRICES NOT INCLUDE HST?

Safety Services Nova Scotia is a registered charity, and does not charge HST.


CAN I SPREAD MY COURSE OUT OVER TWO WEEKENDS?

No. You must take the course on the weekend allotted for the course. You may not spread a course over two weekends or multiple dates or times.


I’VE RECEIVED A DISCOUNT CODE BUT HAVE ALREADY REGISTERED FOR THE COURSE, CAN I APPLY THE DISCOUNT AND BE REIMBURSED?

No. All discount and promo codes MUST be applied at the time of registration. We cannot reimburse you after the registration has been processed.
